Child support income calculation

How do you determine income for child support purposes?

California child support income calculation is easy when a parent or parents are W-2 employees and have income that we call "transparent.” The process becomes more difficult if one or both parents are self-employed or have income outside of the more typical W-2 context.

We wrote articles to help fathers and mothers better understand how a court calculates income when it determines the guideline child support number. Our articles cover the issues of the guideline factors as well as deviation from it. We also discuss modification of child support.

We hope you enjoy our pages on child support and we welcome your feedback on anything you read within them. You may access them by navigating to the child link that you will find at the top of our website or simply click on the links below.
